"What is the USF fee?"
USF stands for The Universal Service Fund (USF) fee, or, as we like to refer to it, “The Library Tax.” As part of the Communications Act of 1996, Congress and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have decided that all long distance carriers are now responsible for turning over a percentage of their long distance revenue to a government fund. These funds will be used to provide discounts to libraries, schools, and rural health care providers for all telecommunications services. "How will the USF fee affect me?"
Some long distance companies have raised their rates to cover this increase in costs. Others (including GLOBALnet) have chosen to add this as a seperate line item on your invoice so that you can see how it affects your bottom line. Tax-exempt customers are not exempt from the USF.
